PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh wrestling program continued to add to its 2022-23 roster with the recent signing of graduate transfer Dazjon Casto from The Citadel.

Casto, a native of Erie, Pa., returns to his home state for his final season of collegiate eligibility after winning the 2022 Southern Conference title at 157 pounds and advancing to the Round of 12 at the NCAA Wrestling Championships in Detroit this past March.

The veteran 157-pounder fills a void in Pitt's lineup left by the departing Elijah Cleary, who qualified for NCAAs last season as a graduate transfer from Ohio State.

Casto was a four-year starter at The Citadel, posting an 82-44 overall record. He really blossomed towards the end of last season, winning 11 consecutive matches down the stretch, including his first career conference title and an incredible upset over defending national champion Austin O'Connor at NCAAs.

Both of Casto's losses at nationals were by one point as he missed out on All-America status by the narrowest of margins, giving him additional motivation heading into NCAAs in Tulsa in 2023.

The former South Carolina state champion, who competed at Erie Cathedral Prep the first three years of his high school career, is the latest addition to Pitt's outstanding 2022 recruiting class.

Holden Heller and Reece Heller recently committed to Pitt as transfers from Hofstra, while the Class of 2022 freshmen group coming to Pitt includes highly touted talents Mac Stout, Dayton Pitzer, Jared Keslar, Briar Priest, Jack Pletcher and Codie Cuerbo.
